Five Things to Know About Thursday's Council Agenda

Dune easements, bayside dredging capacity, Music Pier paint job and more.

At its public meeting 7 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 7) at the Ocean City Free Public Library, City Council will honor World War II veteran Joe Caserta for his heroism in the liberation of France. But here are five other things on the agenda that might be of interest:

  • DUNE EASEMENTS: The city is asking beachfront property owners to grant permission for dune and beach replenishment projects, but the city has to do the same for its own beach property. City Council will vote on the second and final reading of an ordinance that authorizes the signing of those easements.
  • 2ND STREET OUTFALL PIPE and MUSIC PIER PAINT: City Council will vote on a resolution to advertise for bids on tripling the capacity of the beach outfall pipe at Second Street to reduce flooding on streets nearby. Council also will vote to approve a $42,000 contract to paint the Ocean City Music Pier exterior.
  • DREDGING CAPACITY: City Council will vote to contract services for an environmental consultant as it tries to get permission to expand the capacity of a dredging spoils site under the Ninth Street Bridge from 7,000 cubic yards to up to 75,000 cubic yards. The site would help the city deepen shallow lagoons and channels that are impassable to boat traffic at low tide.
  • OCBP CONTRACT: City Council will vote to go into executive session to discuss contract negotiations with the Ocean City Beach Patrol.
  • HOLIDAY LIGHTS: City Council will vote on a resolution that would add four additional blocks of decorative lights for the winter holidays.
