How Much Is COVID Spreading In Cape May County
The variant accounted for more than half of NJ cases over a four-week period. Here's a look at the impact it's having on Cape May County.
CAPE MAY COUNTY, NJ — Cape May County and New Jersey continue to see an uptick in coronavirus cases. (See town-by-town data below.)
According to county health department data, there were 539 active cases in the county as of Friday, up from the 450 reported the previous week on Aug. 13. The cumulative cases now stand at 9,970.
Officials continue to monitor the delta variant, which accounted for 79.4 percent of coronavirus cases in New Jersey over a four-week period ending on July 31, CDC numbers show. The percentage rose 8.6 percentage points from the previous four-week period.

In addition to the rise in cases, the Center for Disease Control has also listed Cape May County among those in the state with a "high" rate of community transmission. The determination is based on metrics such as case rate, positivity rate and prevalence of COVID-like illnesses.

Cape May County officials provided the following breakdown of active cases by town, with active case totals from Aug. 13 in parentheses:
- Avalon: 3 (2)
- Cape May City: 13 (18)
- Cape May Point: 0 (0)
- Dennis Township: 26 (15)
- Lower Township: 121 (117)
- Middle Township: 141 (109)
- North Wildwood: 20 (13)
- Ocean City: 32 (22)
- Sea Isle City: 19 (21)
- Stone Harbor: 3 (0)
- Upper Township: 40 (39)
- West Cape May: 11 (8)
- West Wildwood: 4 (5)
- Wildwood: 64 (48)
- Wildwood Crest: 24 (16)
- Woodbine: 18 (17)
“Getting vaccinated remains the best option to protect yourself and your family from COVID-19,” said Cape May County Commissioner Director Gerald M. Thornton. “Our County Department of Health continues to work hard to ensure that it is as easy as possible for our residents to receive the vaccine.”
The New Jersey Department of Health reports that 60,193 Cape May County residents have received at least one vaccine dose and 54,993 have been fully vaccinated.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 61 percent of the county's population is fully vaccinated. Cape May County is top five among counties in New Jersey for percentage of total population vaccinated.
This week, vaccines will be available:
- Monday: The Reeds, located at 9601 3rd Ave. in Stone Harbor from 10 a.m. to noon.
- Tuesday, Thursday: Cape May County Library Woodbine Branch in Woodbine from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Wednesday: Cape May Lewes Ferry Cape May Terminal in North Cape May from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for the Lower Township Family Concert Series.
Vaccinations are also available every Wednesday at the Cape May County Department of Health building, located at 6 Moore Rd. in Cape May Court House, from 1 to 6 p.m.
