Super Wawa in Somers Point Opens on May 22

The new store at the opposite end of the Rt. 52 causeway from Ocean City will offer fuel service.

A new "Super Wawa" opens 8 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, at 16 MacArthur Blvd. in Somers Point.

The store will include fuel pumps and provide Ocean City residents and visitors easy access to gas prices that are often among the most competitive in the region. The new store is located at the opposite end of the Route 52 causeway on MacArthur Boulevard between DiOrio's Cafe and Braddock Road.

The new Wawa locations feature food-service innovations including built-to-order milk shakes and an in-store ovens to bake rolls.

The Wawa chain includes almost 600 convenience stores (about 300 offering gasoline). Wawa stores are located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and now Florida.

The stores offer more than 6,000 items including groceries, tobacco and candy. But their most popular features are built-to-order hoagies, a self-serve coffee bar and surcharge-free ATMs.

The new Somers Point location was once home to an KFC fast-food resturant and a Pizza Hut. It was approved by the Somers Point Planning Board in December 2011.

Like all Wawas, the new store will be open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on May 22.
