Wind and Flood Warnings Issued for Wednesday Evening

The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning in effect for Ocean City from 4 p.m. Wednesday to 1 a.m. Thursday.

The advisory predict east winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. It warns of downed tree limbs, possible power outages and hazardous driving conditions. Some towns on the coastline in Central New Jersey are warning residents to be prepared to evacuate.

The wind is part of a major winter storm system that will bring severe thunderstorms to the Southeast and snow to much of the Northeast.

Ocean City can expect rain starting on Wednesday morning and turning heavy (1 to 2 inches possible) in the late afternoon and evening. NBC40 meteorologist Dan Skeldon suggests there's a chance of a thunderstorm as well.

The high temperature for Ocean City is expected to be 49 degrees on Wednesday with a low of 44 degrees on Wednesday night.

The forecast warns of the possibility of minor to moderate tidal flooding. High tides on the bay side of Ocean City (Ninth Street Bridge) are 6:59 p.m. Wednesday and 7:14 a.m. Thursday.

Residents in low-lying areas may want to consider moving their vehicles to higher ground.
