Young Musicians Compete for Cash Prizes Today on Music Pier
The Ocean City Music Pier hosts the Esther C. Weil Student Music Competition at 4:30 p.m. May 14.

The public has the opportunity to watch free musical performances starting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday (May 14) as students from eight area high schools compete for $3,500 in prize money and thopportunity to perform with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra this summer.
The performances are part of the third annual Esther C. Weil Student Music Competition on the Ocean City Music Pier.

The Friends of the Ocean City Pops sponsor the event. A total of eight students were awarded prizes last year. Winners are expected to be announced by 7 p.m.
The first-place instrumentalist and vocalist each will receive $1,000 and make a guest appearance with the Ocean City Pops this summer season. The second- and third-place winners in each category will receive $500 and $250, respectively. Â

High schools represented in the competition include: Absegami, Cape May County Technical, Egg Harbor Township, Mainland Regional, Middle Township, Oakcrest, and Ocean City.
