Heavily-Traveled Route 80 On-Ramp To Close For Nearly 5 Months

Bridge reconstruction to take place from April to August, according to the DOT.

PARSIPPANY, N.J. – One of Morris County’s most popular highway on-ramps will be shut for nearly five months for a major bridge demolition and reconstruction project.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced the Route 80 westbound entrance ramp from Route 46 in Parsippany, near Edwards Road, would be closed from April 4 to August 31.

The ramp leads from Route 46 westbound, just past the Edwards Road traffic light and a short distance prior to the traffic light at the Arlington Plaza shopping center.

The construction project will go as follows:

During Stage 1 of construction, the lanes along Route 46 Eastbound will be reconfigured to provide a work zone along the right shoulder. Three through-lanes will be maintained during this duration. Bridge deck demolition, the construction of a new bridge slab, and repairs to the existing concrete abutments and piers will be conducted during this phase.

Three through-lanes will be maintained during this duration. Repairs to the existing concrete abutments and piers will be conducted during this phase.

In addition to the ramp closure, short-term night lane closures will be needed for the painting and cleaning of existing steel beams. Lane closures will be between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday and Sundays; between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. on Fridays; and between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. on Saturdays.

While the ramp is expected to be reopened by the end of August, the full project won’t be complete until late November of this year.
