Lake Parsippany School Safe Despite Strong Gas Odor: Cops
Personnel evacuated the school around 8:45 Tuesday morning; no cause for smell located, police report.
PARSIPPANY, N.J. – An overwhelming smell of natural gas caused a scare and evacuation Tuesday morning before officials deemed the Lake Parsippany Elementary School safe, police said.
Parsippany police and Lake Parsippany Fire Department responded to 225 Kingston Road at 8:49 a.m. Tuesday night for a report of a natural gas odor. When first responders arrived the school was already evacuated, police said, and New Jersey Natural Gas arrived on scene.
Gas and fire personnel did not detect a leak of natural gas in the area and determined the building was safe for re-entry, police said. All personnel re-entered the building and no cause for the odor was determined.
