Local Girls Raise Money, Awareness for Dog Abuse, Puppy Mills

Recently, two Denville sisters—Alicia Mitas, 10, and, Claire, 6—approached the Parsippany Petco store on Route 46 with a request to set up a lemonade stand. The two girls teamed up to raise awareness about abused dogs from puppy mills. Along with selling lemonade, they had a bake sale, sold bracelets and their own art work to raise funds in support of Eleventh Hour Rescue based in Rockaway.

“The stand was open for business on two separate occasions in front of the Petco Store … thanks to Store Manager Jay and his generous offer to host their efforts,” said Roger Keyser, an Eleventh Hour Rescue Volunteer. “Their dog, Jenny, alumni from Eleventh Hour Rescue, joined in their campaign as well.  In total, the girls raised over $106 for their efforts.”

The Mitas sisters set up shop on Aug. 30 and Sept. 4.
