ROCKAWAY, NJ — A potential threat against Copeland Middle School in Rockaway was found to be not credible by township police, Superintendent James McLaughlin said.
The threat was received early Tuesday morning, McLaughlin said. "The Rockaway Township Police promptly investigated the situation and determined that the threat was not credible," he added. Parents were notified by email and text, and a message was posted on the district website.
Police Chief Martin McParland told the Daily Record that a Snapchat prompted school officials to call police. The snap had the words "the sixth grade isn't going to be ready for this" and the surprised face, squirt gun and fire emojis. He told the paper that the student said it was not indended as a threat.
