Stolen Car Chase Ends In Parsippany On Christmas Day

East Hanover Police pursued the suspect into a dead end street where he ditched the car, authorities said.

PARSIPPANY, NJ - A pair of Pennsylvania men were arrested after a car and foot chase that ended in Parsippany on Christmas day, according to the East Hanover Police Department.

Officer Eric Prach located the stolen car and when he attempted to pull it over, it accelerated initiating a pursuit along Route 10, police said.

Prach lost sight of the car and began searching the area and found it on a dead end street in Parsippany unoccupied and when he got out of his patrol car he saw a man running through the woods but did not give chase, as he was unfamiliar with the area, police said.

A short time later, two men fitting Prach's description were located exiting the woods by Det. Dave Littman.

23-year-old Demarcus Sagurton, Bushkill Pa., and 20-year-old Drevon Laster, Saw Creek Estates, Pa., were arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, police said. A search of the vehicle resulted in a controlled dangerous substance, paraphernalia and a weapon being located, police said.

Both men were charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of CDS and drug paraphernalia, under the influence, taking without owners consent, receiving stolen property and eluding, police said.

Laster was also charged with disorderly conduct and hindering, and he also received summonses for DWI, unlicensed, uninsured, failure to exhibit documents, two counts of failure to keep right, failure to use turn signal, reckless and careless driving, speeding, unsafe lane change, failure to maintain lane, two counts of failure to observe traffic light, failure to use lights when required, CDS in a motor vehicle, operating a vehicle without consent of owner, failure to yield to emergency vehicle, failure to pull over and stop for an emergency vehicle, unsafe tires, failure to equip limo with fire extinguisher and first aid kit, police said.

Sagurton was also issued a summons for failure to wear a seatbelt. Both parties were transported to the county jail pending their court dates.
