Bystanders Pull Unconscious Woman From Ocean Near Jenkinson's : Cops

Woman was not breathing when Scotch Plains man jumped into the surf and rescued her.

Point Pleasant Beach - The condition of a 26-year-old woman who was pulled unconscious from rough surf off Jenkinsons Boardwalk on Sunday was unknown tonight, at the request of her family, according to app.com.

Bystanders spotted her about 20 years offshore, bobbing facedown in the water at 3:46 p.m. Matt Kalafat of Scotch Plains plunged into the ocean and brought her to shore. She was not breathing and several bystanders performed CPR until emergency responders arrive and transported her to Ocean Medical Center.

“It was horrible," said Guy Corrubia of Brick. “I’ve never seen anything like that. She was pretty much gone.”

“There was posted 'no swimming' all over," said Corrubia. “I was a lifeguard years ago. That rip current, they (some swimmers) don’t appreciate that.”
