A Letter to the Editor from Democratic Point Pleasant Borough Council candidate Peter Hagemeyer.

My name is Peter Hagemeyer and I'm running for Point Pleasant Council as a Democrat.

I have lived in Point Pleasant 13 years and am married 14 years to my sweetheart Grace, who is a lifelong resident. We are raising two sons and a daughter, all attending Ocean Road School.

I hold a bachelor's degree in computer science, and have worked as a computer and software engineer for 20 plus years. I am active with Cub Scouts, coach a few baseball teams, and help out with our church Sacred Heart when needed. One of my favorite pastimes is bicycling! Not only do I competitively race, but I bike commute to work year round, and am involved with bicycle safety, complete streets program, and several New Jersey bicycling groups.

I have made Point Pleasant a home for my family, and have many friends in this wonderful town. The Council is composed of ALL REPUBLICANS! Is this a good representation of our community? Michael Thulen Jr. and Joseph Furmato Jr. are running for re-election. Both of them voted to raise their (their own) council salaries to $7K in March 2016. Mike Thulen and Joseph Furmato have a proven record of voting for tax increases. Do you like and want more tax increases? Are these the people who represent you in Point Pleasant?

I am running for council to bring positive changes and strong leadership. I want to bring balance, diversity, and transparency to the Point Pleasant Town Council. I will fight to put Point Pleasant's families first in all town legislation, stem the steady rise in taxation, while promoting pedestrian and bicycle safety. I want to revise the town strategic plan to include the complete streets plan. I want to promote the development of our business districts while ensuring the safety and quality of life of the residents are maintained. I want to stabilize the taxes and prevent the mortgaging of our towns' future.
