'Our Family Needs Prayers:' Surfer Paralyzed In Point Beach

POINT PLEASANT BEACH – Aaron Carr, 27, needs your help, and it's going to require something more than money.

"Our family needs prayers and a miracle to make him walk again," said said his aunt, Ruthie Harrison.

His aunt is asking for financial help, too, since Carr had a horrific surfing accident on July 4th, Harrison.

Harrison, of Asbury Park, said the Roselle Park man was injured in Point Pleasant Beach. Harrison has set up a Facebook fundraiser that has collected more than $97,000 toward her $125,000 goal.

Harrison said Carr was thrown off his surfboard and hit the ocean floor head first. He almost drowned and was rushed to Jersey Shore Medical Center, she said.

Carr was paralyzed from the waist down because of a spinal injury and was placed on a ventilator, she said.

"Aaron loved to surf, ski, snowboard and he is the kindest young man I've ever met!" Harrison said. "He would do anything to help anyone."

Harrison said Carr faces months of rehabilitation and his home has to be retrofitted "big time" to accommodate his needs, she said.

"He is amazing," Harrison said. "He has a rough road ahead. We are planning to use some of the funds to retrofit living space, purchase a handicapped accessible van and an iPad Pro that he can use by voice commands among other items that he will need."

He will also need equipment and help with co-pays, she said.

Carr told The Asbury Park Press: “I’m having great days,” he said. “I’m just so happy to be alive, that I’m all here and that I can talk.”
