Week Ahead: Community Watch Meeting, Lego Fun, Ice Cream and Free Concert

Point Boro Community Watch is planning for National Night Out on Aug. 6 at Community Park

This week you can help make Point Boro safer, have your kids play with Legos at the library, play Progressive Bridge at the Woman's Club, give blood for an ice cream coupon at Hoffman's and listen to a free concert.

Those are a few of the things coming up in this week in the Boro-Beach area.

The Point Boro Community Watch is having a meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Municipal Building, Bridge Ave. Final plans for National Night Out, which will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 6, at Community Park, will be discussed.

All residents are welcome to bring any ideas for National Night Out, as well as questions about how to contribute to Community Watch for greater public safety.

This is one of many National Night Out events across the U.S., all designed to encourage neighbors to look out for each other and take steps to help prevent and report crime and suspicious activity. To read about the local event here the past two years, click here.

Kids love legos and the library has lots of 'em. Lego Club meets at 6:30 p.m. Mon. at the Point Borough branch, Beaver Dam Road. Kids ages 5 to 11 are welcome to "test your imagination as you build with the library's LEGO blocks."

And speaking of playing, the Point Pleasant Woman's Club will host Progressive Bridge at 12:30 p.m. Tues. at the club, 513 St. Louis Ave., Point Pleasant Beach. The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, 12:30 pm, at the clubhouse. Additional upcoming dates are Aug. 13 and Aug. 27. Call Patricia Sullivan at 732-899-2731 for information and directions.

At 2:30 p.m. Thursday, there will be a Community Blood Drive at Hoffman's ice Cream, 800 Richmond Ave. (Route 35 South), Point Beach. Every donor will receive an ice cream coupon. For more information, see the Patch event listing.

In Point Borough, another free concert is scheduled for Thursday night at Riverfront Park, River Road and Maxson Avenue, Point Borough. The event will begin at 4 p.m. with food, beer and wine and the live music is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Marc Ribler and Friends will perform "a night of classic soul Featuring JT Bowen - Lead singer from Clarence Clemons and Red Bank Rockers."

The Point Boro Class of 1983 is having its 30th class reunion at Jenkinson's on Saturday night. Tickets are $75 each. To see if there are any seats still available, email Regina Foley at drfj6300@comcast.net
