Week Ahead in Point Boro and Point Beach

National Night Out, Stop FEMA meeting, Car Cruise and More

A National Night Out event, a Stop FEMA meeting, a Shark party at the library, a car cruise and a deadline to request mail-in ballots for the special primary election are all coming up this week.

There will be a Stop FEMA meeting at the Bay Head Shores clubhouse, Point Borough, at 7 p.m. Monday. For details, click here.

At 11 a.m. Tuesday, the library has a celebration for the older kids.
"Come celebrate all things Shark in honor of Shark Week! Grades 6 - 13," says the library's Patch Event listing. "Please register by calling 732-295-1555 or online at www.theoceancountylibrary.org." (Check that website for more events at branches in the Borough and the Beach.)

There will be a National Night Out in Point Borough from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Community Park, Bridge Avenue and Beaver Dam Road, one of many such "Night Out" events to be held across the country Tuesday night.

National Night Out is designed to help bring neighbors and residents together to get to know each other so neighbors will be more likely to watch out for each other's families, homes and cars.

The National Night Out event will feature crafts, popcorn, cotton candy, public safety awareness and education and more for the kids, while providing a forum for neighbors to join Community Watch and form local watch groups to increase awareness of crime and drug activity. The Borough police, first aid and fire departments will be doing presentations.

The first National Night Out was in 1984, according to the national website.

The Point Pleasant Beach Chamber of Commerce will hold another free Car Cruise  from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Arnold and Bay avenues will be closed to vehicular traffic. There will be live music, prizes and more. Visitors are asked to sign up at the chamber table on Bay Avenue.

The car cruises are sponsored by DeFelice Auto Center, Auto Trader, Coal House Pizza, Ellis, Ged & Bodden and Atlantic Auto Body and Raceway Park, Englishtown.

Ocean County is reminding residents that all applications for Vote By Mail Ballots for the Special August 13 Primary for US Senate that are sent through the mail need to arrive in the County Clerk's Office by Tuesday, Aug. 6.

After that date, registered voters in Ocean County must apply in person at the County Clerk's Election Office to obtain a Mail-In Ballot for the special Primary Election. The deadline for obtaining a Mail-In Ballot in person is 3 p.m., Monday, Aug. 12. After that time, voters must obtain a court order from a Superior Court judge allowing them to apply for a Mail-In Ballot.

For more information, see the county website.
