UPDATED: Accident on Route 206 Sends Driver to Hospital, Ties Up Traffic

It's not clear what caused the accident, which happened just north of the intersection of Ewing Street.

A 66-year-old Skillman woman was transported to the hospital on Thursday afternoon after her car crashed into a utility pole on Route 206, just north of the Ewing Street intersection. 

The accident happened shortly before 2 p.m. 

According to police, the single-car accident happened as the driver, Ellen Shepardson, was driving north on Route 206. Her car, a grey station wagon, ended up perpendicular to a utility pole, which then snapped and pulled wires down across part of the roadway.

There were no reported power outages and none are expected because the poles contained phone and cable wires, police said. Verizon crews were on the scene Thursday afternoon to repair the poles. 

Northbound traffic on Route 206 was diverted at Ewing Street and Herrontown Road and drivers diverted to Mount Lucas Road, which runs parallel to Route 206.

It was not immediately clear what caused the accident. Shepardson suffered an injured left wrist and complained of neck and shoulder pain. Members of Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad .took her by ambulance to the University Medical Center at Princeton

The incident remains under investigation.
