All Township Brush and Leaves will be Collected by Dec. 31

This fall has been a challenge for Public Works, with Hurricane Irene, the October snowstorm and leaves falling late.

All brush and leaves will be removed from the streets of Princeton Township by the end of the year, Department of Public Works Superintendent Don Hansen said Monday.

So far DPW crews have hauled away 350 truckloads of leaves and brush, according to Hansen and DPW Foreman Chris Torres said.

The good news comes just two weeks after Hansen told Township Committee brush removal would continue well into the New Year.

Crews began collecting brush on Monday, Nov. 7, following Hurricane Irene in late August and a surprise snowstorm October that downed trees throughout the Township.

Because of the specialized equipment needed for brush removal, the Township could simply hire outside contractors , Hansen said. Instead, it hired Borough crews, extended daily work hours, authorized Saturday work hours and even got assistance from the county.
