Charter School Advocates Urge Assembly Not to Vote on Charter Bills
They argue that a piecemeal approach is not the answer.

Charter school advocates, including some from Princeton Charter School, said on Tuesday that a four-bill package under consideration in the state Assembly should be pulled from votes because the bills undermine growth of quality charters, according to mycentraljersey.com.
The bills have been listed for action at today’s Assembly session.
Charter school advocates, led by the New Jersey Charter Schools Association, held a press conference Tuesday to urge Speaker Sheila Oliver, D-Essex to hold the bills.

- A3356 – – The bill is intended to improve the oversight and accountability of charter schools. One provision calls for a lottery program to ensure that a charter school’s enrollment reflects the demographics of the district.
- A3852 – This bill would require a vote before a charter school can be approved.
- A2806 – Permits the conversion of a non-public school to a charter.
- A3083 – Permits the designation of new charter school authorizers, but imposes a 1 percent per pupil fee on charter schools to pay for authorizers.
