Fast Casual Restaurant Brings South Indian Flavors To Princeton
Madras Dosa Company offers traditional South Indian food with dishes that are gluten free.
PRINCETON, NJ – Indian food is vast and diverse; the flavors and dishes change based on geography and culture. And bringing the authentic flavors of South India to Princeton is the Madras Dosa Company.
This fast casual restaurant specializes in dosa – a savory, thin, crispy, gluten free crepe made from fermented rice and lentil batter, that is a South Indian specialty.
And they have a variety of fillings – from the traditional spicy potato, ghee (clarified butter), podi, onion and paneer – to a more out of the box filling like strawberry jam, mango and pineapple.

First started in Boston, the Madras Dosa Company, soon expanded to NYC and then to Princeton with a soft opening in November.
“The response since we opened has been tremendous. We’ve had so many people come in, including students from Princeton University. The flavors make them feel nostalgic ,” said T Sridhar, the franchisee owner.
Talking about the food served at the restaurant, Sridhar explains that they firmly stick to their Indian roots when it comes to preparation, but also provide a modern twist.
“Our food is traditional, just named differently. And the best part is, the menu is largely vegan and gluten free.”
Apart from dosas, the restaurants also serves Pesarattu, a traditional crepe made of green lentil batter which is high on protein. There’s also paniyarams, which are dumplings made of rice and lentils that can be stuffed with fillings of your choice; idlis which are steamed rice and lentil cakes; vadas that are traditional spicy donuts; rice pilafs and more. The restaurant also offers plant-based meat made from soy protein.
“When we first launched Madras Dosa Company in Boston, we quickly discovered that our core customer base included students, millennials, and anyone who loves clean, healthy eating—especially when it comes to flavorful Indian food. This insight led us to our next big step: expanding to Princeton, NJ. We knew this dynamic community would appreciate our fresh, fast, and healthy approach to Indian cuisine,” the founders said in a statement.
On Friday, Madras Dosa Company, is planning grand opening celebration. The first 50 customers can enjoy some chai or lassi for free, Sridhar said.
Madras Dosa Company is located at 180 Nassau Street, Princeton.
