Graffiti Incidents Rise Across Princeton; Police Increase Patrols & Investigations

The police department is also seeking the public's help to curb such incidents.

PRINCETON, NJ - Princeton has seen an increase in reports of criminal mischief, specifically graffiti, throughout our community, the police department said.

“While some may view graffiti as minor or harmless, these incidents have a real impact,” police said.

Graffiti damages both public and private property, creating costly cleanup and repair needs.

“It can contribute to feelings of unease and diminish the appearance of our neighborhoods, schools, and parks,” police said.

Certain markings may also carry offensive or threatening messages, which can negatively affect residents and visitors.

Officers are actively investigating these incidents and increasing patrols in affected areas. They are also coordinating with local partners to ensure that graffiti is promptly removed, helping to maintain the safety and appearance of the community.

The police department is asking the community for help to curb such incidents:

  • If you see graffiti in progress, call 9-1-1 immediately.
  • If you discover graffiti after the fact, report it to the police department through their non-emergency line at (609) 921-2100.
  • Property owners are encouraged to document and then remove graffiti as quickly as possible, as swift removal can deter repeat activity.

“The Princeton Police Department remains committed to keeping our town safe and welcoming for everyone,” police said.

“Working together, we can address this uptick in vandalism and protect the quality of life in our community.”
