Princeton Housing Authority Honors Evelyn Voorhees

On Friday afternoon, there was a dedication at Spruce Circle to honor Evelyn Voorhees, a former residential Board Member of the Princeton Housing Authority. What follows are remarks made by PHA Chairman Leighton Newlin:

First giving honor to God from whom all blessings flow…on behalf of the PHA staff and  Board of Commissioners , I would like to welcome all of you to this dedication ceremony for our dear friend Ms. Evelyn Voorhees who served faithfully as a residential  Board Member of the Princeton Housing Authority.

Truly it was a blessing to have her serve in that capacity because she brought a unique combination of compassion and concern for the management staff, the board and the tenants who live at the various sites, here in Princeton… but particularly those of you who were her friends and live here at her beloved Spruce Circle.

Evelyn’s daughter Deborah and her family are with us today to help us celebrate her life and her legacy, and were always kind enough to share their mother/grandmother with all of us because in one way or another she considered us all her children.

Her kindness, generosity, and genuine concern and love for others, especially her neighbors here at Spruce Circle were her trademarks…so it is quite fitting that we recognize her vast contributions to her community by dedicating this sitting area in her honor.  This space like Evelyn will bring peace and comfort to all who come here to spend quiet time in relaxation, reflection, and thought.

I want to thank Scott Parsons for his leadership in management.  I also want to acknowledge the administrative staff for their hard work and dedication.  To Malcolm Roach and the entire maintenance staff…The board wishes to express our gratitude for your craftsmanship and care in creating a beautiful space to honor a beautiful person, and last but certainly not least I want to acknowledge a fellow board member and close friend of Evelyn’s, Ms. Linda Sipprelle, for acting as Chairperson for this dedication ceremony, and doing so in a way that I know would make Evelyn both happy and proud.  I know you like i feel her sweet spirit here today and know she is looking down on us with her approving smile.
