Joint Effort Safe Streets Returns To Princeton In August

The event is a celebration of the Witherspoon Jackson Community's history.

PRINCETON, NJ - The Joint Effort Princeton Witherspoon Jackson Community Safe Streets Summer Program returns for another year in the Municipality.

This celebration of Princeton’s 20th Historic District will run from Friday, Aug. 2 – Sunday, Aug. 11 and will be held at various sites and venues across Princeton.

The event is a celebration of the Witherspoon Jackson Community’s history and will be held in conjunction with many Princeton businesses, community leaders, community organizations and citizens.

The theme of this year’s program is Reflections on Paul Robeson and the Witherspoon Jackson Community.

Each day of the community programming will be named after and highlight an important Black personality in Princeton and the Witherspoon Jackson Community history.

Black community heroes like Ruth Parker, Donald Johnson, Frank Wells, Doris Burrell, Laura Wooten, John Young as well as the Witherspoon Jackson Community will be acknowledged.

On Aug. 7, the Arts Council will host Doris Burrell Day, featuring the Jim Floyd Memorial Community
