Mercer County Sheriff's Office To Continue Car Seat Safety Check Program For 2026

This free program is part of the Sheriff's ongoing campaign to help families and others properly secure their children in automobiles.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — Mercer County Sheriff Jack Kemler announced that on-site child seat safety checks will continue in 2026 at the Colonial Fire Company, at 801 Kuser Road in Hamilton Township.

This free program, partially funded by a generous grant from the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety and supported by the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey, is part of the Sheriff's ongoing campaign to help parents, grandparents, expecting parents, and others properly secure their children in automobiles.

Trained and certified Sheriff's Officers will conduct each child seat check for proper installation. They will also help determine if your child is in the right seat for their age and size.

"The Mercer County Sheriff's Office continues its long-time support for child seat safety. It is important for parents, grandparents, and those expecting to know that a child will be secure in their car seat and is in the right seat for their size and age," said Kemler. "The free and easy safety checks will help to safeguard your child in a vehicle and boost overall safety."

The car seat safety check-ups will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month in 2026. Inspections are held in a weather-protected area at the rear of the firehouse.
