Moore Declines Debate at Princeton University
She says voters had an opportunity to see one debate between the candidates and she's busy until the election.

Princeton University’s Whig-Cliosophic Society will host tonight’s debate between the Princeton Borough mayoral candidates, but one candidate has declined the offer to square off against her opponent.
“(Democrat) Yina Moore has says she’s not able to come,” said Guy Wood, a member of PVotes, Princeton’s student voter registration organization.
The debate is scheduled for tonight at 7 p.m. in the Whig Senate Chamber, Whig Hall (located behind Cannon Green).

Republican Jill Jachera plans to attend to explain her candidacy and answer questions, but a debate with her opponent won’t be possible.
“One of the reasons that I’m running is to give the voters a chance for debate,” Jachera said.

Wood said tonight’s event was the last of several attempts to schedule a debate, but the date kept getting postponed. When Moore said Monday might work for her, PVotes rescheduled a final time.
“This year because we’ll be back from fall break when the election happens, we wanted students to get excited and energized about the debate,” Wood said, adding that issues like consolidation have students interested in the election.
Moore said she tried to have a campus debate in the spring, but nothing materialized. Now, with her busy schedule leading into the Nov. 8 election and students not returning from fall break until Nov. 6, there simply isn’t enough time.
She and Jachera did debate on Sept. 20 at the Princeton Jewish Center.
Moore said she has another commitment tonight.
“I have three or four things ever day or not so (another debate) is really not likely to happen,” Moore said. “We’ve had a debate, and I think the issues individually can be expressed in different ways and I do a lot of that in activities in different ways.”
