Princeton 2024 Election: Sample Ballots, Candidates, Voter Information

The voter registration deadline is creeping closer. Here's what to know if you plan to vote in Princeton for the 2024 election.

PRINCETON, NJ — The 2024 general election is just around the corner. While the presidential matchup between Kamala Harris, Donald Trump, and their third-party/independent challengers continues to draw the most attention, there are elections at the local level as well, including a competitive school board race.

The Mercer County Clerk’s Office has released sample ballots for Princeton, which you can see here.

  • Election Day: Tuesday, Nov. 5
  • Early voting: Oct. 26-Nov. 3; Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot by mail: Tuesday, Oct. 29.
  • Deadline for in-person applications for a mail-in ballot: Nov. 4 by 3 p.m.

THE CANDIDATES

Six candidates are competing for three open seats on the Princeton Board of Education – Ari Meisel, Christopher Santarpio, Eric Snyder, Lisa Potter, Mara Franceschi and Shenwei Zhao.

Meanwhile, Mayor Mark Freda is running unopposed and Leighton Newlin and Brian McDonald are seeking council seats with no opposition.

Here are some other races that voters in Princeton will be asked to cast ballots for:

  • US SENATOR – Candidates for a U.S. Senate seat who will appear on the ballot in Princeton are Andy Kim (Democrat), Curtis Bashaw (Republican), Kenneth R. Kaplan (Libertarian), Joanne Kuniansky (Socialist Workers Party), Christina Khalil (Green Party) and Patricia G. Mooneyham (Independent).
  • US HOUSE (12TH DISTRICT) – Princeton voters in the 12th Congressional District will cast ballots for a full two year term in the U.S. House of Representatives. Candidates on the ballot are Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (Democrat), Darius Mayfield (Republican), Kim Meudt (Green Party) and Vic Kaplan (Libertarian Party).
  • MERCER COUNTY COMMISSIONERS – Princeton voters will get to cast a ballot in the race for Mercer County Commissioners. The Democratic candidates on the ballot Samuel Frisby, Kristin L. McLaughlin and Terrance Stokes. The Republican candidates are Andrew Curcio, Pedro Reyes and Denise Turner.

3 WAYS TO VOTE

There are three ways to vote in the 2024 general election in New Jersey. Here’s what options are available:

Vote By Mail – The last day to apply by mail for a vote-by-mail ballot is Oct. 29. Applications can be downloaded here. Or, you can visit the County Clerk’s office in person at 209 S. Broad St. Trenton during regular business hours, to fill out an application and pick up a ballot. If you are using the U.S. Postal Service, the ballot must be postmarked on or before Nov. 5 and received by the Board of Elections by Nov. 11 to be considered valid and to be counted. If you are using one of the county’s “secure mail drop boxes,” the deadline for delivering your ballot is 8 p.m. on Nov. 5. If you are delivering your ballot in-person, you can deliver your completed ballot to the Board of Elections Office up until 8 p.m. on Nov. 5 . Voters can confirm that their ballot was received here.

Early Voting – Early in-person voting for 2024 general election will take place from Oct. 26 to Nov. 3. Voting hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For a list of early voting locations, click here.

Election Day – Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day, which takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Find your local polling locations and secure drop box locations here.
