Princeton Authorizes $1.7M Contract For Road Improvements

The resolution was adopted by a unanimous vote.

PRINCETON, NJ – Council recently adopted a resolution authorizing $1,715,565 to Lucas Brothers, Inc. for Improvements to Alexander Street, Dickinson Street, and University Place.

Princeton received three bids for the project - $1,715,565.00 from Lucas Brothers, Inc.; $2,044,724.65 from Black Rock Enterprises, LLC; and $2,058,113.13 from Earle Asphalt Company.

After staff reviewed the bids, they recommended that a contract be awarded to Lucas Brothers, Inc.

The construction cost will be offset by a New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Municipal Aid grant of $724,820, according to a memo by Deputy Administrator Deanna Stockton.

The project includes the following improvements:

  • Full reconstruction of the roadway, curb, sidewalks, and sanitary sewer on Dickinson Street.
  • Storm sewer repairs.
  • Resurfacing, sidewalk repairs, and ADA curb ramp replacements on Alexander Street (Mercer Street to College Road) and University Place (Berlind Crosswalk to Nassau Street).
  • Modifications to the College Road / University Place intersection to reduce crosswalk lengths for pedestrian safety.
  • Removal of brick crosswalks and replacement with high visibility crosswalks striping.
  • Roadway signage and pavement markings including bicycle sharrow markings on University Place.

The resolution was adopted by a unanimous vote.
