Princeton Election Day Guide 2024: When, Where To Vote

The general election is Tuesday. Check out our voter guide before you cast your ballot.

PRINCETON, NJ — Princeton voters will head to the polls soon to cast their ballots for local school board and town council, and the White House race.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5.

This is a major election year with the race for United States President at the top of the ticket. New Jersey voters will also select a new U.S. Senator to replace Bob Menendez after his conviction on federal bribery charges, and all 12 of the state's seats in the U.S. House of Representatives are also up for re-election.

Early in-person voting for the general election began Oct. 26, and will end on Nov. 3.

Vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked by 8 p.m. on Election Day, and be received by the county Board of Elections within 6 days after Election Day. These voters can also put the ballot in a drop box, or deliver it to the Board of Elections, by 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

WHO'S ON THE BALLOT

  • PRESIDENTIAL RACE - Residents will have to choose between Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, the Democratic candidates, or former President Donald Trump and his running mate, J.D. Vance, of the Republican Party. Also running are: Claudia de la Cruz and Karina Garcia, Party for Socialism and Liberation; Rachele Fruit and Margaret Trowe, Socialist Workers Party; Joseph Kishore and Jerry White, Socialist Equality party; Chase Oliver and Mike Ter Maat, Libertarian Party; Jill Stein and Rudolph Ware, Green Party; Randall A. Terry and Stephen E. Broden, U.S. Constitution Party.Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his running mate, Nicole Shanahan, will appear on the ballot as independents. While Kennedy withdrew from the race on Aug. 23 and endorsed Trump, it was too late to have his name removed from the ballot in New Jersey, which has a deadline of Aug. 16 for candidates to withdraw. Requests from Kennedy and from the state Democratic Party Committee to remove Kennedy's name were rejected, the New Jersey Globe reported.
  • PRINCETON BOE - Six candidates are competing for three open seats on the Princeton Board of Education.

  • TOWN COUNCIL - Mayor Mark Freda is running unopposed and Leighton Newlin and Brian McDonald are seeking council seats with no opposition.
  • US SENATOR – Candidates for a U.S. Senate seat who will appear on the ballot in Princeton are Andy Kim (Democrat), Curtis Bashaw (Republican), Kenneth R. Kaplan (Libertarian), Joanne Kuniansky (Socialist Workers Party), Christina Khalil (Green Party) and Patricia G. Mooneyham (Independent).
  • US HOUSE (12TH DISTRICT) – Princeton voters in the 12th Congressional District will cast ballots for a full two-year term in the U.S. House of Representatives. Candidates on the ballot are Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (Democrat), Darius Mayfield (Republican), Kim Meudt (Green Party), and Vic Kaplan (Libertarian Party).
  • MERCER COUNTY COMMISSIONERS – Princeton voters will get to cast a ballot in the race for Mercer County Commissioners. The Democratic candidates on the ballot are Samuel Frisby, Kristin L. McLaughlin, and Terrance Stokes. The Republican candidates are Andrew Curcio, Pedro Reyes, and Denise Turner.
