The Plaza design extends to the edge of Witherspoon Street and expands usable space.

PRINCETON, NJ — After several site visits, stakeholder meetings, and steering commitee workshops, residents were given a sneak peek of what Hinds Plaza will look like after a facelift.
Consultants Arterial, Inc. made a presentation to Council on Monday, showcasing the concept design for the plaza.
The Plaza extends to the edge of Witherspoon Street and expands usable space.

In the concept design, the trees have been grouped, opening the space to better accommodate events and activities taking place at the venue, the consultant said.
The current trees on Hinds Plaza have recently been inspected by the Princeton arborists who came to the conclusion that they are on a decline and at the end of their lifespan. The plan proposes the removal of the trees and planting new ones.

The number of movable elements like furniture is limited. There’s a 20-foot designated space for outdoor dining, near Kristine’s and Witherspoon Grill.
The rendering shows plans to add metal swings with wood top fastened to the existing pergola. There are also plans to thin out the wisteria for better visibility to retail businesses around. Stacked cube benches will be provided for seating.
The only fixed element in the Plaza will be the platform seating which can double up as a stage when needed, and a gateway feature bench on the Witherspoon Street side.
Bike racks are located at the edge of Witherspoon Street and near the Spring Street garage entrance.
The final concept plan is expected to be presented to the Council and community in November.
