Princeton Police Increase Patrols After 3 Home Burglaries In Recent Weeks
According to police, all three incidents share similar characteristics.
PRINCETON, NJ - The Princeton Police Department is asking residents to take extra precautions following three residential burglaries that have occurred in the community over the past three weeks.
According to police, all three incidents share similar characteristics that suggest a pattern. In two cases, suspects gained access through unsecured windows or doors, while the third involved forced entry through a rear door that was pried open.
"In all three cases, the point of entry was at the rear of the residence, likely chosen to avoid detection from the roadway," police said in a community alert issued this week.

First and foremost, they emphasize the importance of securing all entry points. "Always secure all doors and windows—day and night—even when you're home," officials advised.
Exterior lighting is another key recommendation. Police suggest keeping outdoor lights on during evening hours and installing motion-activated lighting in darker areas around homes to deter potential intruders.
For residents with security systems, the department stresses the importance of ensuring all equipment is functioning properly. "If you have an alarm system, exterior surveillance or video doorbells, make sure they're working properly," the alert stated. Homeowners are also asked to review any footage and contact police if they notice suspicious activity.
Community awareness plays a crucial role in crime prevention, according to police. Residents are urged to report any unusual people, vehicles, or noises immediately by calling the Princeton Police Department at (609) 921-2100 or dialing 9-1-1 for emergencies.
The department also encourages neighbors to look out for one another, particularly when someone is away from home, and to share information about suspicious activity.
Additional recommendations include keeping valuables out of sight and ensuring garage doors remain closed at all times.
"Together, we can help prevent crime and maintain the safety of our community," police said.
Anyone with information related to these burglaries is asked to contact the Princeton Police Detective Bureau at (609) 921-2100.
