Roxy Will Get a New Home

Two weeks ago "Roxy" was found lying in the middle of Mercer Street late at night. She was emaciated, malnourished and riddled with infections. She was so weak she couldn't stand up.

Thanks to a good samaritan who prevented the German Shepherd mix dog from getting run over, Princeton's animal control officer for responding to the scene, an emergency vetrinarian and staff members at , Roxy now has a second chance at life. 

Her medical tests show no major medical issues and she has been cleared for adoption. A woman from Plainsboro will adopt her after the holiday weekend, Princeton Animal Control Officer Mark Johnson said Thursday. 

Johnson was initially hopeful that Roxy's owner would turn up after the dog was found, because she had clipped toenails and an indentation on her fur from a collar. But no one came forward. 

Over the past couple of weeks, Roxy has undergone a full medical exam, including blood tests xrays and an ultrasound. Some of the initial tests were inconclusive, leading to the ultrasound, but aside from some arthritis, the dog is in good health, Johnson said. 

Last week Johnson said he feared that if Roxy was in poor health, there may be no choice but to put her down. 

Now no one has to imagine such a fate. 

"She's probably going to a new home either Monday or Tuesday," Johnson said.
