Temporary Traffic Signal to Be Installed on University Place This Week

Work begins today, Monday May 13, on the installation of a temporary traffic signal at the intersection of College Road and University Place for use over the next year when construction detours are in effect for Princeton University's Arts and Transit Project.

The installation and testing of the temporary traffic signal will take approximately two weeks. During this time there may be intermittent traffic delays at this intersection, primarily during off-peak hours, due to the need to construct the signal in and over the roadway. Police will be at the site during work hours to maintain an orderly traffic pattern.

The signal is related to the Arts and Transit Project, which includes a new Wawa convenience store and new Dinky train station for the NJ TRANSIT train that runs between Princeton and Princeton Junction. The project also includes three new campus arts buildings and renovation of the rail station buildings for a café and restaurant.

This temporary traffic signal will be in place from May 2013 until about February 2014. It will only be activated when detours are in effect for construction on Alexander Street (between University Place and College Road) and University Place.

Demolition work will also continue along Alexander Street this week, so traffic on Alexander Street near the intersection of University Place will be alternated intermittently during off-peak hours. Workers will be on the road to alternate traffic when this occurs.
