1. Stuff Animal Drive spreads joy and comfort to hospitalized children (unionnewsdaily.com) — Students at Rahway’s Grover Cleveland Elementary School just wrapped up a hugely successful stuffed animal drive, collecting hundreds of new toys for hospitalized children. Working with Inspire Youth NJ and Healing Hugs, the Student Council organized, packaged, and personalized each gift bag with notes and crayons, giving local kids a hands-on lesson in empathy and community service.
   

2. Big Central Conference releases 2026-27 football division alignments (mycentraljersey.com) — Rahway High School’s football team is shifting divisions in the Big Central Conference for the 2026 and 2027 seasons, moving into the Liberty Gold alongside Woodbridge, Colonia, Plainfield and Linden. These realignments could change rivalries, travel and competition levels for Rahway families. The conference reshuffle mainly affects small and mid-sized schools across Central Jersey.
   

3. Is East Jersey State Prison Closing? (tapinto.net) — If you’ve heard rumors that the prison on the Avenel-Rahway border is closing, local officials and union leaders say that’s flatly wrong and East Jersey State Prison will remain open. The facility, once called Rahway State Prison, employs about 700 people and is a major economic anchor for nearby communities. Lawmakers never advanced the governor’s earlier closure proposal.
   

4. Carteret to Break Ground on Friday for a New $47.5 Millon Ferry Terminal (tapinto.net) — Rahway train commuters could eventually catch jitneys from the Rahway station to a new $47.5 million ferry terminal in nearby Carteret, offering another route to Lower Manhattan. Carteret breaks ground this Friday, with construction expected to take up to two years and ferry service possibly starting before the full terminal opens in 2028.
