Two Hospitalized After Three-Car Accident On Maple Ave., Red Bank

Police: Driver of a car on Maple Avenue crossed into oncoming traffic Monday afternoon, colliding with one car that then hit another.

RED BANK, NJ — A car traveling south on Maple Avenue crossed into northbound traffic Monday afternoon, with the resulting crash closing a portion of the road near East Bergen Place into the early evening, police said.

Based on preliminary information, Capt. Michael Frazee of the Red Bank Police department said the driver of a 2017 Volvo, a 21-year-old man Anthony Whittemore of Oceanport, appeared to be traveling southbound on Maple Avenue and crossed over the center line and collided with a northbound 2022 Chevy.

The Chevy then struck a southbound 2015 Subaru and a telephone pole, he said.

The driver of the Chevy suffered a minor left arm injury and the passenger of the Chevy suffered a leg injury. The driver of the Subaru suffered a hip and chest injury, Frazee said.

The Subaru driver refused medical attention. The Chevy occupants were transported to Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, Frazee said.

Whittemore, the owner of the Volvo, is expected to be issued a summons for careless and failing to keep right, Frazee said.

The accident is being investigated by the department's Traffic Safety Unit.

Police closed Maple Avenue Monday afternoon in both directions between East Bergen Place and Irving Place due to the crash. At about 6 p.m., the road was still closed and traffic was being redirected by police.
