'Black Gotham' Author At Fortune Center Saturday In Red Bank
"Black Gotham: A Family History of African Americans in Nineteenth Century New York City" will be topic of Red Bank program.

RED BANK, NJ — The T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center will host a Women's History event Saturday, March 30, with an author talk by Dr. Carla Peterson.
The event at 3 p.m. features Peterson, whose book, "Black Gotham: A Family History of African Americans in Nineteenth Century New York City," inspired the Scott Family characters in the popular HBO/MAX series, "The Gilded Age," according to organizers.
Peterson is a professor at the University of Maryland.

The event also includes the character of T. Thomas Fortune. Peterson's, grandfather, Jerome Peterson, was T. Thomas Fortune’s partner in the New York Age newspaper.
Peterson will have a conversation with the Cultural Center’s Executive Director Gilda Rogers.
