MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ — A body was found on Sunday morning floating around a quarter-mile off the shore in Sea Bright, according to the New Jersey State Police.

The body was reported by a passerby on a boat who called 9-1-1 at around 11:35 a.m., Sgt. Alejandro Goez said.

The identification of the person has not been released and is still pending a post-mortem examination.

Members of the New Jersey State Police Marine Services Bureau, the U.S. Coast Guard and Sea Bright Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and transported the body to shore, where it was turned over to the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information has been released.
