The sons of Sigmund Eisner, a longtime library benefactor, donated the Eisner residence at 84 W. Front Street to the Borough of Red Bank for use as a library in 1937, and it opened as its permanent home on April 15. An addition was completed in 1968, according to the library website.

The Red Bank Public Library, in addition to its general collections and other services, collects, maintains and preserves materials on local history for the benefit of historians and library patrons.

In its local history collection are old books, yearbooks, maps, photos, postcards and other materials from the Red Bank area dating back into the 19th century. It also has vertical files of periodical clippings about Red Bank, primarily, and the surrounding Shore area.

Aside from the items available in the library, it has a number of online resources, plus a self-guided Historic Walking Tour of Red Bank, links to archives of local newspapers, and the history of the Eisner family. See the Digitized Publications and Resources page.

If you have anything that you would like to donate to the library, contact the library at redbanklibrary@gmail.com or 732-842-0690.

The Red Bank Public Library will be closed this Friday and Saturday for the Veterans Day holiday, and will reopen on Monday at 10 a.m.
