Photo a Day: Favorite Place

Each day of the month we’re bringing you our submission of a themed Photo a Day challenge. Today, Oct. 13, the theme is Favorite Place.

What your favorite place is depends on your perspective. One of my favorite places in Red Bank is on the banks of the Navesink River on the west side of town. Here you won't find expansive private docks, million-dollar condos, sailboats, or encroaching development. Instead, this area of the river, overgrown with reeds, offers serene views of the water and scenery, if you can get a glimpse.

While this section of the Navesink is mostly free of development, river access is just as restricted as it is downtown. At the end of most roads visitors will find blockades in the form of giant dirt piles, chain link fences, and overgrown vegetation. Once you find a view, however, it's spectacular.

The above picture was taken alongside the banks of the Navesink on the west side this afternoon.

With the advent of media sharing applications like Instagram and the rapid rise in photo sharing across the internet through forums like Facebook, Reddit and even Patch, there have been movements to engender creativity in the digital photography community.

One such movement that has become popular is the now-ubiquitous Photo A Day challenge. While many sites across the internet offer their own interpretations and challenge lists, the goal is always the same, to capture a digital image each day that represents that day’s specific theme.
