Police ID Body Found Off The Sea Bright Shore

The man was found by a passerby on a boat on Aug. 29, according to the New Jersey State Police.

MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ — Police have identified a body recovered from the ocean a quarter-mile off the shore in Sea Bright.

The body found on Aug. 29 was that of 36-year-old Matthew Vega from North Bergen, according to the New Jersey State Police.

Vega was found by a passerby on a boat who called 9-1-1 at around 11:35 a.m., Sgt. Alejandro Goez said.

The police was initially unable to identify the body and asked for the public's assistance.

In a sketch released by officials, a distinct tattoo resembling a "solar eclipse" could be seen on the right shoulder.

Police also described the body as a male between his 20s and early 40s, around 5’ 11” tall, 190 pounds and wearing dark blue jeans, a black belt, and black Nike sneakers.

Members of the New Jersey State Police Marine Services Bureau, the U.S. Coast Guard and Sea Bright Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and transported the body to shore, where it was turned over to the Middlesex County Medical Examiner's Office.
