Red Bank Man Charged In Fatal Pedestrian Collision

Jose Rodriguez-Jimenez, 40, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident that left a man dead in Shrewsbury, prosecutors said.

SHREWSBURY, NJ — A Red Bank man has been charged with leaving the scene of a fatal collision in Shrewsbury, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Friday.

Jose Rodriguez-Jimenez, 40, was charged with knowingly leaving the scene of an accident under certain circumstances, Santiago said.

On Aug. 5, prosecutors said Shrewsbury Police responded to a 911 call shortly after 2:45 a.m. for an unresponsive man lying in the road on Shrewsbury Avenue.

An investigation into the incident determined that the man was struck by a Ford Econoline van that Rodriguez-Jimenez was driving.

The man was later identified as Mariano Codallos-Tepepa, 23, of Brick. Officials said Codallos-Tepepa was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to prosecutors, Rodriguez-Jimenez did not stop at the scene during the time of the accident and did not report the collision to law enforcement.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor Caitlin J. Sidley of the MCPO Major Crimes Bureau.
