Police later identified Smith as a suspect. The incident is still under investigation.

Smith is on interim suspension at Landmark pending the outcome of the college's judicial process, according to the Burlington Free Press.

"It was a handwritten note on a whiteboard," said Chris Lenois, associate director of marketing and communication. "We contacted the Vermont State Police out of an abundance of caution. It was never considered a credible threat."

Anyone with information about the incident please contact investigators at the State Police Westminster barracks at 802–722–4600.
