Update: Service Restored After Man Struck and Killed by Train in Matawan
Train service has been restored for the North Jersey Coast Line after a man was struck and killed by a train in Matawan early Monday.

Train service has been restored after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a train early Monday near the Aberdeen-Matawan Station, authorities said.
The North Jersey Coast Line was temporarily suspended at approximately 6:05 a.m. between Middletown and Matawan, according to 511nj.org. Shuttle bus service had been temporarily provided to passengers between the stations.
At approximately 5:30 a.m., an unidentified male, who had “trespassed” on to the tracks, was fatally struck by a train, New Jersey Transit spokeswoman Courtney Carroll said.

A preliminary investigation by NJ Transit Police shows that the man appears to have stepped out in front of the train, Carroll said.
Further details are unavailable at this time, as the investigation is ongoing. Carroll was unable to say if the locomotive engineer had seen the man before he was struck. Details about the man, including where he was from or which hospital he was taken to, were also unavailable at this time.

Train service was restored at approximately 8:00 a.m. between the Middletown, Holmdel-Hazlet, and Abeerdeen-Matawan stations. All trains have resumed normal schedules.
Service had been suspended in both directions during the investigation of the fatal accident.
