Big Designer Deals For Kids at New Consignment Shop

When Jessica Burns' daughter Taralynn was younger, she was often aghast that she'd be tossing away nice clothes – and money – as Taralynn grew.

That's a thing of the past now, as Jessica is the proud owner of Taralynn's Closet, an upscale children's cosignment boutique on N. Maple Ave.

With designer offerings and bargain prices from newborns to pre-teens, she's throwing a wrinkle to the usual consignment style.

"Coming to Taralynn's Closet is like treasure hunting," says Burns, who previously worked in client relations at a New York law firm before staking it out on her own.

Items – with brands ranging from Dolce & Gabbana, Armani and Dior, to Gucci, Burberry and True Religion – can be taken off the shelves for 60 percent off the tag price, Burns says.

Conversely, shoppers can drop by on Tuesday, Wednesday and with an appointment to consign the clothes their kids no longer wear. They'll get 40 percent on the selling price or can opt for a 60 percent store credit. A website is also set up for clients to track what they've consigned and what they've purchased.

"Often times people overgift a child and they don't ever wear the outfit," Burns says. "That's what this store is about – giving someone else a chance to buy a great item at a reasonable price."

Business has been steady since opening a month ago, though her expectations are a bit loftier.

"I'm expecting it to get better and better," she said, adding she "loves, loves, loves Ridgewood."

So much so, Taralynn will soon be entering a Ridgewood montessori school so she'll be seen less often during the day.

Not to fret though, there's a second baby on the way.

Taralynn's Closet is located at 10 S. Maple Ave. The store is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
