Borough Offers Free Shade Tree Planting

The Glen Rock Shade Tree Advisory Committee and the Glen Rock Department of Public Works encourage residents to request a free tree planting in the along the streets in front of Glen Rock homes. 

Planting trees benefits the community by beautifying Glen Rock and allowing residents to breathe easier and stay cooler.

Planting sites that are not under power lines will be top priority for the 2012 planting. Locations with electrical lines will be considered if they can be planted further away from the street and not directly under the lines.

When no locations are available in the borough right-of-way, planting sites on private property - on the house side of sidewalks away from the wires - will be considered, depending on the availability of trees. In these cases, the borough is responsible for the tree for the first year, after which the care for the tree becomes the responsibility of the resident.

STAC is currently recommending six different tree species: American Elm, Pin Oak, October Glory Maple, Village Green Zelkova, Greenspire Linden, Thornless Honeylocust, and Sweet Gum.
