Flood Watch in Effect for Parts of Bergen, Passaic Counties

Total rain could amount to upwards of 3 1/2 inches, forecasters say.

A flood advisory warning has been issued for parts of Bergen and Passaic counties, according to the National Weather Service.

From Sunday afternoon through Monday morning, total rainfall could yield between 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 inches or more. The alert states significant flooding could occur in urban areas or those with poor drainage.

Per the new lightning detection system in Ridgewood, two bolts of lightning within 10 miles have already been detected and 23 recorded within 20 miles, Mayor Keith Killion said in an e-mail.

The weekend rain storm is the first significant rain the area has seen in months. Rain may continue until the storms clear Wednesday morning, according to the weather forecast.
