Glen Rock Community School Opens Camp Registration

Camps include sports, performing arts, brain games and more.

The following was sent by the Glen Rock Community School.

Camp registration has begun at the Glen Rock Community School, and children from preschool to high school will find something special to fill those long summer days ahead.

Day Camps – Busy Bee, for grades 1-5, and Jr. Busy Bee, for incoming kindergartners, are all-inclusive day camps that offer a wide variety of games, sports, arts and crafts, weekly field trips and daily swim lessons.  For the convenience of working families, Before and After Camp Care for both Busy Bee camps is available Monday-Friday, 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. New to GRCS this year is Camp International, where students can “travel abroad” experiencing the culture, cuisine and history of a variety of foreign lands without ever leaving Glen Rock.

Sports Camps – Lots of new sports activities are on the program for summer, many of which are being run by members of the GRHS coaching staff. Heads Up Lacrosse Camp and Clinics for boys, under the direction of Head Coach Tim Bracken, and Rock Lacrosse Camp and Clinics for girls, led by Head Coach Taryn Tabano, will run on the new turf fields at the school’s athletics complex. Rock Softball Camp has joined the community school in its fourth year under Head Coach Kelly Dowell and Rock Sports Camp is back with Head Football Coach Jim Kurz who combines some good old-fashioned games with an intro to sports like football, lacrosse, basketball and soccer. Glen Rock Basketball Academy is back for a second year with camp for boys entering grades 4-8 as well as a new co-ed boot camp, both run by Head Coach Jason Mittelman. Coach Bonnie Zimmermann returns for another summer of tennis and volleyball clinics, and Head Volleyball Coach Matt Kingsley will offer a full-day camp for girls. TGA-Premier Jr. Golf Camp rounds out the sports activities with professional golf instruction for children ages 5-11.

Performing Arts – Studio Stars drama camp will celebrate its 26th year introducing aspiring actors to the excitement of the stage and the thrill of applause. Summer Ballet School is in its 32nd year of keeping ballet students on their toes. Two new music camps have been added as well: Sounds of Summer Band Camp, for students entering grades 5-8, and private instrument lessons, for elementary students, will explore the world of musical instruments in the new Performing Arts Wing at Glen Rock High School.

Brain Games – The popular Math and Science Camp for students entering grades 1-6 returns for another exciting, stimulating and challenging season in the state-of-the-art GRHS STEM Wing. Book Club invites students at all reading levels who are entering grades 3 to 5 to share their love of reading and writing. Math Enrichment will help students entering grades 6-9 prepare for a successful transition to middle and high school mathematics. Our brand new language arts enrichment programs, Poetry: Playing with Words and Mighty Memoirs will provide much inspiration for middle-school age authors. The Princeton Review returns with an SAT course to prepare students for the October exam without the conflicts of regular class work, athletics and other commitments during the school year.

Preschool Programs – Play Camp introduces the youngest campers to their first camp experience. Children ages 3 and 4 will enjoy an age-appropriate morning of fun activities including games, crafts, music and water play. In addition, weekly computer activities will introduce them to basic mouse and keyboarding skills and Abrakadoodle® Art will provide activities for budding Picasso’s.
