GLEN ROCK, NJ — Glen Rock Middle School and High School are raising money to purchase wreaths for Fairlawn Memorial Cemetery, as part of the "Wreaths Across America" event held nationwide.

Wreaths Across America is an annual effort to place wreaths at veterans' headstones in cemeteries across the country. Fairlawn Memorial Cemetery is an official location for 2021, and the schools are partnering with the cemetery for the second year.

"The goal for Glen Rock Middle School and High School is to raise enough funds to place 500 veterans' wreaths on the headstones of all the local heroes laid to rest there," Glen Rock school officials said on Facebook, "to ensure that the individuals who served to protect the freedoms of our country never be forgotten and to bring the community together in patriotic commemoration."

Through its participation in Wreaths Across America, Glen Rock schools aim to "remember, honor, teach," officials said.

"Wreaths Across America started as a simple gesture of thanks that has grown into a national movement of dedicated volunteers and communities coming together to not only remember the nation's fallen and honor their service, but to teach the next generation about the sacrifices made for us to live freely," officials wrote on Facebook.

Next month, over 2 million volunteers will come together to place wreaths at 2,700 locations on National Wreaths Across America Day, officials said.
