Glen Rock VFW Makes Donation to Assist Homeless Vets

Post 850 donated $2,000 to the Bergen County "Tracers" program, which will use the funds to purchase food gift cards and bus tickets.

Glen Rock VFW Post 850 made a large donation to the county's Veteran Services "Tracer" program, helping homeless veterans purchase food gift cards and bus tickets.

According to a County of Bergen press release, the VFW donated a $2,000 check last week.

“You and your staff should be commended for the untiring dedication to our homeless veterans," Post 850 Trustee Paul D. Roberts said to the county's Veterans Services Program. "It is quite unfortunate that these honorable men, who gave so much to our great country, have to be in such a terrible plight.”

Since its inception in 1993, more than $80,000 in bus tickets have been provided, according to the press release. There are approximately 100 homeless veterans in the county.

The program's name is derived from the glow-in-the-dark bullets recognized by U.S. Military personnel, the press release states. The veterans who volunteer for "Tracers" assist in non-traditional means to help find employment for veterans, with a goal of reaching self-sufficiency.
