Glen Rock Woman Scammed By Fake 'Daughter,' Say Police
A woman sent money to her "daughter" who had claimed she'd broken her cell phone, Glen Rock police said.
GLEN ROCK, NJ — A Glen Rock resident reported to police last Friday that someone posing as their daughter had scammed them out of $1,998.98.
The parent reported receiving a text message "from an individual whom they believed to be their daughter," stating she needed $ 1,998.98 because she broke her work cellphone and needed to replace it.
The person sent the money via Zelle.

Afterward, the person found out from the daughter that the exchange was a fraud.
It was not explained how the daughter would have been able to text with a broken phone.

In any case, "The complainant’s bank has been notified, and the matter has been referred to the Detective Bureau for investigation," police said.

During the period between March 3 and March 9, members of the Glen Rock Police Department handled 353 calls for service, they said.
