Joint Glen Rock, Fair Lawn Farmers Market Not Happening

The Fair Lawn farmer's market is done for the year, and is likely to stay put next year in its current location at the corner of Fair Lawn Avenue and Craig Road in Radburn.

At a Fair Lawn council work session last month, Jane Spindel raised the possibility of moving the floundering farmer's market from Radburn to the former Walsh Pool next year and running it in collaboration with Glen Rock.

That move is now unlikely to occur, Spindel said, because primary vendor Silver Lake Farm isn't sold on the idea that drivers will pull off the highway to stop in at the market.

"The farmer was pretty adamant about not moving the location so we may stay put with a small market, which in the end, may only be the farmer," Spindel wrote in an email.

"I only met with them [in Glen Rock] once to find out if they were interested. There was not an overwhelming rush to get involved - they wanted more concrete info in writing," she said.

Three vendors have abandoned the Fair Lawn market in the past two years after failing to turn enough profit, but the farmer has continued to make enough for it to be worth their while, Spindel said. Glen Rock does not have its own farmers market.
