'Love Lives Here' Signs Popping Up In Ridgewood

The signs are being displayed in response to a swastika that was found at Ridgewood High School recently.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — The signs just started showing up at people's front door. Reminiscent of those political signs that grace front lawns during election season, these have a very different message.

The signs say, "Love Lives Here" with a Ridgewood High School "R" in the center and several religious and social icons along the sides. People have placed the signs on their front lawns. Some have been placed at the train station.

When asked, a few people either did not know, or did you want to share, who made and is distributing the signs. Two people said the campaign started in response to a swastika found in a girls' bathroom at Ridgewood High School.

"It's a beautiful sign of love and inclusion," said Mayor Ramon Hache. "It sends the right message that hate and intolerance are not welcome here. It sends a beautiful message, especially after what was found at the high school, the mass shooting in Pittsburgh, and now around the holidays."

Superintendent Daniel Fishbein did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A student found the swastika next to a Star of David. Both symbols were carved into the stall, Fishbein said in a letter to parents Dec. 4. (See related: Swastika Found In Ridgewood High School Bathroom: Superintendent)

Fishbein called the incident "highly shocking" and "disturbing."

The Ridgewood Police Department was notified and is investigating the incident.
